Illinois Medicaid
As of January 1, 2018, Illinois provides Medicaid coverage of abortion care. Please note that not all abortion providers accept Medicaid.
Who is eligible for abortion care at no cost?
Illinois residents with Active Illinois Medicaid or a pending application for Illinois Medicaid*
* As of May 2020, only some clinics are able to accept pending applications for full coverage. Please call our helpline (312-663-0338) if you need help finding a clinic that will accept your pending IL Medicaid application.
Note: Unfortunately, undocumented people are not eligible for Medicaid at this time. However CAF supports everyone, regardless of documentation status, and can connect undocumented people with full funding for abortion care
What is included at no cost?
All aspects of the procedural (“surgical”) or medical ("pill") abortion appointment:
ultrasound
labwork
counseling and informed consent
procedure or medications (either dispensed or prescriptions)
IV sedation ("comfort shot")*
Rh immunoglobulin (i.e. Rhogam - if needed)
* Some clinics charge money for sedation. CAF can assist with these related costs. Please call our helpline (312-663-0338) if you need assistance with any of these charges.
